Ignite Baltimore 3 was PACKED. All those people in one place made it HOT. Not hot as in it was the new new thing that the cool things are doing. I mean hot as in farinheit hot. Were I presenting, I probably would have passed out on stage. No big deal, nothing that couldn’t be handled.
I’ve never seen so many iPhones in one place, and this is coming from a guy who lived in San Francisco when the iPhone launched. That was the only negative on the night: most of the people had their faces buried in TweetDeck on their iPhones.
My favorite presentation was The Capitalist Redemption put on by Jim Kucher. We all remember Gordon Gecko’s seminal “Greed is Good” masterpiece in front of the shareholders of Teldar Paper. Kucher updated the message to “Greed is good because it enables you to do good.”
Second favorite was Peter Corbett with No One Cares About Your Crappy Web App. He wins huge points for stating the obvious, but doing it was enthusiasm and a call to action to be better with the stuff us nerds are churning out.
Bronze medal goes to Will Noel for dropping Archimedes on us and somehow making it interesting. The Walters Art Gallery is restoring The Archimedes Palimpsest which is over 1000 years old and was erased and written over in the 13th century.
I also really liked Matt Castner’s talk on being a Generalist and pointing out how little knowledge is shared across disciplines. Good point, needs to be applied more often in software engineering.
Kickstarter.com is so awesome, I’m annoyed that I didn’t know about it earlier.
I know the event was streamed live over the Internet, but I don’t know if the videos are posted somewhere. Will have to do some digging on it. There are a million trend posts on Twitter.
The whole event was pretty amazing. Great job all around to Mike, Patti, GBTC, and the other organizers.
